This famous Warwick landmark, one of the two remaining gateways into the medieval town of Warwick, is listed as a Grade 2* Scheduled Ancient Monument.
St Peter’s Chapel, built in 1420 and refurbished in 1788 stands majestically over the 11th Century gateway, and has been sympathetically refurbished to the highest standard under the auspices of English Heritage. This unique and historic building comprises:
It is situated in the centre of the town at a main crossroads, and there are views from all the windows, in several different directions.
There is no garden but there is a small seating area with a bistro table and four chairs.
The building is as practical and comfortable as it can be, without damaging its character.
There are two bedrooms, with comfortable beds to ensure a good nights sleep - one with a King Size bed and the other with twin beds.
It has two modern bathrooms - one with bath and shower, the other with shower and the kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven, electric hob, washer, dishwasher, microwave and fridge (with a smaller freezer compartment).
There is a 3D television with Freesat, Free Wi-Fi, a Blu-ray/DVD player and a Bose CD player.
The building has some oddities such as uneven stone floors and a narrow oak staircase, which only enhance the quaintness of the building.
There is a gas central heating system.
Gas and electricity are included in the rent.
Although there is a fireplace there are no chimneys so no attempt should be made to light fires in any of the rooms.
Linen and towels are included. The beds will be made up with sheets, duvets and pillowcases when you arrive. We provide one hand and one bath towel per bed per week. Further bedding/towels are available if needed, for a small rental charge.
We would suggest that the building is unsuitable for either crawling babies or toddlers because of the unevenness of the stone floors and the fact that it does not have stair gates.
A travel cot is available upon request.
There is one booster seat and plates, cutlery, etc especially suitable for children.
There is no wheelchair access and we recommend that the building is unsuitable for anyone with walking difficulties. (18 steps to the front door).
The building is fitted with audible smoke alarms but if you, or a member of your party, are hard of hearing we suggest you make alternative arrangements.
The building has battlements around three sides and in some cases the walls are low. Anyone walking around the battlements do so at their own risk and children should be accompanied at all times.
The building was never meant for the intention of being lived in and consequently you may encounter features that will require due care and attention, particularly for the young, elderly, less mobile or visually impaired. Examples of these are steps worn with age, uneven surfaces, unexpected drops and changes of level.
The number staying at the property (excluding babies in cots) must not exceed four. You may invite an additional two guests to visit you during your stay but they must not stay overnight.
No pets allowed.
There is a strict No Smoking policy.
Because of the fire risk, no candles are allowed, although you will be provided with “Smart Candles” which contain batteries and which look reasonably realistic.
The building will be cleaned and prepared for your arrival and will be available from 4pm. You must vacate before 10am on your last day. Your stay will not be disturbed (except in emergencies or by prior arrangement).
You will be provided with one Visitor Car Parking Pass which will enable you to park in neighbouring streets marked W2. A map showing the W2 streets is provided in the Visitor Handbook.
A £100 cash deposit is payable on arrival to cover keys, parking pass and damage. This will be refunded on departure on surrender of the keys and parking pass and provided there is no damage to the property.
Visitors will be met on arrival at an agreed time when they will be given two keys and one car parking pass.
